Biographical
Patrick G. Jones has been an attorney for over 40 years and brings a very diverse and unique background to his mediation and arbitration practice. He was a CPA with a Big Eight accounting firm; a partner in three large law firms in Atlanta during his first 17 years in private practice, where he practiced in the corporate and tax areas; the General Counsel of a public technology company for eight years; the Chief Financial Officer of that same company for four years; and the head of investor relations of that company for two years. During his tenure as General Counsel Mr. Jones handled over 100 merger and acquisition (M&A) transactions, and settled several significant patent infringement and employment cases through negotiation and over 20 shareholder lawsuits through mediation. Since leaving that company in 2003 Mr. Jones has been a mediator and arbitrator, and he also returned to practicing law in early 2007. Mr. Jones' background has proved to be particularly beneficial in handling pre-litigation business controversies such as shareholder disagreements, post-closing purchase price adjustment and indemnification disputes, business divorces and valuation issues. He has also served as an ADR consultant in an arbitration involving a post-closing purchase price adjustment following the sale of a company for more than $100,000,000.
Mr. Jones served as Chair of the Audit Committee and as a member of the Compensation Committee of a private technology company for 15 years, and also served as an advisor to the board of directors of a manufacturing company for 18 months. He has also served on the boards of numerous nonprofit organizations, chairing two of them.
Mr. Jones was the Co-Chair of the Georgia Limited Liability Company Committee that drafted the Georgia Limited Liability Company Act, and he is the co-author of the Georgia LLC/LLP Handbook. He has also served as an expert witness on partnership law in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, and on limited liability company law in the Superior Court of Fulton County,Georgia.
