Thomas J. Lyman is an AV Preeminent-rated attorney and mediator who has been registered with the Georgia Office of Dispute Resolution since 2010. His mediation practice focuses primarily on personal injury, wrongful death, trucking, insurance coverage, bad faith, and other significant civil disputes.

Before focusing his practice on mediation, Thomas represented both plaintiffs and defendants in personal injury and wrongful death litigation and tried cases to juries throughout Georgia. That experience gives him a practical understanding of how lawyers and clients on both sides evaluate risk, value cases, and make difficult settlement decisions.

Thomas joined the panel at BAY Mediation & Arbitration Services in 2019 and has since mediated hundreds of matters. His approach is direct, practical, and persistent. He believes effective mediation begins with preparation, continues with a candid assessment of the strengths and weaknesses in each room, and sometimes requires continued work after the formal mediation session ends.

Thomas maintains a full-day mediation practice and places particular emphasis on making the best use of the day by understanding the important facts, legal issues, insurance considerations, and settlement obstacles before negotiations are well underway.

Thomas earned his AV Preeminent rating in 2021. He has been recognized by Super Lawyers as either a Rising Star or Super Lawyer since 2015 and was selected to the National Trial Lawyers “Top 40 Under 40” beginning in 2017. He also regularly speaks to lawyers on mediation strategy, settlement, and case preparation.
